Relocation Back to 30 Crest Road - FAQ

The Middlebury Public Library will be relocating to its beautiful, newly renovated building at 30 Crest Road very soon. Please see our FAQ below to get an idea of what to expect.

When is the library closing / reopening?
The library will be closed from Monday, October 7th and will reopen at 30 Crest Road on Monday, November 4th.

Will the library’s contact information change?
Our telephone number will remain the same as before: 203-758-2634. There may be a brief period of time during our closing period when our phone systems may be down while we transition from one building to the next.

Why does the library need to close?
Closing the library allows for the moving company to work quickly and efficiently to make the relocation process as painless as possible. It also guarantees the safety of our patrons, expedites the project, and provides an economic incentive as well.

Where can I return my library materials?
The drop box at 30 Crest Road will be in operation during the entire period we are closed to the public. Library materials may also be returned to other Connecticut libraries, which is the preferable option if you are able. The libraries closest to Middlebury are Woodbury, Southbury, and Naugatuck (Howard Whittemore).

Will I be able to renew online?
All materials checked out prior to our Monday, October 7th closing date will be scheduled with a due date of Monday, November 4th, which as mentioned above is the date we will be reopening at 30 Crest Road. However, online renewals will operate as normal. Other libraries may also be contacted for renewals by phone.

How will library fines be applied?
Library fines will be forgiven and waived beginning on Monday, October 7th and continuing until Monday, December 2nd.

What will happen to materials that I had on the holds cart at 199 Park Road?
All patrons will be contacted to advise them to pick up their holds by Monday, October 7th. Unfortunately, any material not checked out will be returned to its home library. Your online account will indicate the status of your holds (visit middleburypubliclibrary.org and click on ‘My Library Account’).

Will I still be able to request material online?
Your account will operate as normal and holds may be placed. We advise you to select another local library that is convenient for you as your temporary pick up library until we reopen.

What will the new hours of operation be at 30 Crest Road?
The hours of operation will be as follows:

Monday             10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Tuesday             10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Wednesday        10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Thursday           10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Friday                10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday            10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

What improvements will we see at 30 Crest Road?
The newly renovated and energy efficient building includes a reading room, five study rooms, a designated teen room, a café, additional meeting rooms, including an updated Connecticut History Room, and an energized staff ready to assist. Please come visit our beautiful new facility.

When will programming resume?
Shortly after we reopen, our patrons are invited to join us for a family read event, focusing on the Caldecott Medal winner The Adventures of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick, a teen event which brings to life the award winning Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, and a cupcake baking contest in which any and all may participate. The library will also continue to offer its regular monthly programming, including its adult books discussions and children’s story times, which will be accompanied by new monthly teen programming offerings.
